House prices in Portugal have shown a slight increase, but at a slower pace, according to the latest data from idealista. In April, the median housing cost stood at 2,622 euros per square meter, with a minimal increase of 0.5% compared to the previous month. However, it is worth noting that house prices in 15 district capitals saw a rise between March and April, with Portalegre leading the way with a 6% increase, as reported by the idealista price index. On an annual basis, house prices in Portugal rose by 5.8%.


Revealed: Most Expensive Cities to Buy a House in Portugal

Among the district capitals, prices of houses for sale increased in 15 out of 20 cities with representative samples. Portalegre saw the highest increase at 6%, followed by Bragança (4.7%) and Évora (3.6%). Lisbon remains the most expensive city to buy a house, with prices reaching 5,585 euros per square meter. Porto and Funchal take the second and third spots, respectively, with prices of 3,566 euros/m2 and 3,304 euros/m2.

On the other end of the spectrum, Guarda is the most affordable city to purchase a home, with prices at 764 euros per square meter. Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Beja, Bragança, and Santarém also offer more budget-friendly options for potential homebuyers.

Overall, the housing market in Portugal continues to show signs of growth, albeit at a slower pace compared to previous months. With prices varying across different regions, potential buyers have a range of options to consider when looking for their dream home in Portugal.
