Portugal House Rents Rise 7.1% in April: Real Estate Update

Portugal house rents saw a significant increase in April, with a rise of 7.1% per square meter compared to the same month in 2023. This marks a slight uptick from the previous month's increase of 6.9%, with all regions across the country showing year-on-year growth. According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), "all regions exhibited positive year-on-year variations in housing rents, with Lisbon experiencing the most notable increase at 7.4%".
In terms of monthly changes, the average value of housing rent per square meter saw a 0.6% variation in April (compared to 0.9% in the previous month). Lisbon once again led the way with the highest positive monthly variation at 0.7%, and no region reported a negative variation in the average value of housing rents.
This data highlights the ongoing trend of rising house rents in Portugal, with Lisbon standing out as a particularly hot market for renters. As the demand for housing continues to outpace supply, it is likely that we will see further increases in rental prices in the coming months.
