Green Technology investment potentially raises property value by 15%
Explore the benefits of integrating green technology in your home to potentially raise property value by 15%. Invest in a sustainable future for your home.
A recent study conducted by Ovo Energy has revealed that a significant number of house hunters are actively seeking properties that come equipped with green technology. This includes environmentally-friendly upgrades such as solar panels, triple-glazed windows, and roof insulation, all of which contribute to increased energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions. As the demand for eco-friendly homes continues to rise, there is a clear opportunity for sellers to enhance the value of their properties by incorporating green technology.
According to Rightmove's 2023 Greener Homes report, improving the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of a property from an F to a C could potentially increase its value by up to 15 percent. For a property with an average price of £285,000, as reported by the Office for National Statistics, this could mean an additional value of £42,750. Solar panels, which typically cost around £5,875, have been shown to add £11,500 in value to a home, as per Barrows and Forrester. Similarly, triple-glazed windows, although a more expensive option at £1,200 per window, offer improved energy efficiency and noise reduction, making them a desirable feature for potential buyers.
Furthermore, the installation of an electric vehicle (EV) charger, at a cost of just £1,000, could increase the value of a property by 1.7 percent, adding nearly £5,000 to the price of an average house, according to Barrows and Forrester. With the growing emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency, it is clear that green technology is becoming an increasingly attractive feature for homebuyers.
The incorporation of green technology in properties not only benefits the environment but also presents a valuable opportunity for sellers to enhance the value of their homes. As the demand for eco-friendly housing continues to grow, it is evident that investing in green technology can have a positive impact on both the environment and property values.
