One thousand masks a day and 200 protective medical shields in polycarbonate a day will be made with the use of 3D printers.
“During an emergency such as this one, we feel the need to make a concrete contribution. We have therefore decided to support the Sant’Orsola-Malpighi Hospital, an institution with which we have had a collaborative relationship for years, through both professional consultancy in promoting programs to protect our workers’ health, and in research projects. We will win this battle together by working in union, supporting those who are at the forefront of fighting this pandemic every day.” - said Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.
Recently, Lamborghini come ahead yet again to help Italy fight the Covid-19 pandemic by using 3D printing technology to build mechanical lungs which to be used as a breathing simulator. The design and validation of the lung simulators took just two weeks and the Italian luxury car maker's production is now outputting 18 simulators every week.
The 3D printed lung simulator is designed and manufactured by Lamborghini’s Research and Development Department to support SIARE Engineering International Group, the leading medical respirator manufacturer in Italy.
In addition to manufacture the above 3D printed medical equipments, Lamborghini has also been lighting up its headquarter buildings in Sant’Agata Bolognese with the colors of the Italian flag every evening to show solidarity and support as the nation tackles the crisis.
Quick to respond to the situation recently of running out of the respiratory valves needed to connect the patients to the machines, meanwhile the original supplier was unable to meet the sudden high demand, an Italian hospital based in Brescia turns to 3D printed oxygen valves. Cristian Fracassi, CEO of Isinnova, a Brescia-based engineering firm, used 3D printing to meet the hospital’s demands and help save many patients’ lives.
