Discover why Madrid has been ranked as the top choice for high-net-worth individuals looking to invest in Europe. Explore the latest expert index findings.
Madrid has been named the hottest property market in Europe, according to the latest expert index by Barnes. The 2024 Barnes City Index evaluated 50 cities worldwide based on practical, emotional, and financial criteria, such as social life, business opportunities, taxation, and culture. Madrid emerged as the best city in Europe and the fourth best globally, trailing only behind Dubai, Miami, and New York.
The Spanish capital's appeal to high-net-worth individuals lies in its reputation for safety, stunning architecture, warm climate, high-quality healthcare, education, and transportation infrastructure. Additionally, Madrid boasts a thriving business environment with a mix of national and multinational companies, offering a balanced work-life experience complemented by a vibrant food scene and a rich cultural heritage that includes iconic attractions like the Prado Museum and Santiago Bernabeu.
Experts predict a 6.5% increase in prime property prices in Madrid in 2024, reflecting the city's growing allure for investors. As Spain's financial hub, Madrid is increasingly overshadowing Barcelona, its architecturally impressive counterpart. While property prices in both cities are comparable, prime real estate in Madrid holds a 20% higher value than in Barcelona.
Moreover, Madrid offers better value for money compared to other European cities, with a $1 million investment securing three times more space than in London and over twice as much as in Paris. Projections indicate a 30% rise in the number of millionaires in Madrid from 2022 to 2027, as affluent individuals flock to the heart of Spain. Furthermore, individuals relocating to Madrid and investing in real estate or financial assets for at least six years can benefit from a 20% deduction on their municipal tax.
Madrid's top ranking in the 2024 Barnes City Index underscores its appeal as a prime investment destination for high-net-worth individuals seeking a blend of luxury, culture, and financial opportunities.
