Health and wellness tourism is not a new trend, but it has been rising lately. According to the Travel Association, people are adding wellness into their holiday. They take part in activities focused on improving their wellbeing such as yoga, meditation, spa treatments and holistic treatments.
Because of the health benefits of wellness tourism, people are spending more time on these activities during their vacation. In particular, the average time that they spend on wellness activities is almost four and a half hours each day. Most of the time they try to avoid using technology such as smartphones, laptops and tablets. Generally, people will spend nearly two hours a day on average to keep away from their gadgets. While they are keen to avoid too much time spent on their devices, many people still use wearable technology to track their health and fitness activity. There are 12 percent of people who take an exercise tracker away with them, such as a Fitbit.
Although there are many different types of wellness tourism, physical fitness is the top choice as holidaymakers want to focus on doing wellness activities such as yoga, pilates and nature hikes. They spend over four hours a day on them. The next most popular wellness activities are spa treatments and meditation/silent time. Only 14 percent of them plan to try holistic therapies such as Reiki and chakra balancing.
The reason why international trends in recreation and wellness tourism are rising is because people want to relax and unwind. Also, young travellers prioritise mental wellness during their trip. As there are always new trends in wellness tourism, you have many options to choose from. Also, because people are focusing on alleviating stress and boosting wellness, travel companies are offering more options with wellness, from adventure to youth to cruise brands, or offering accommodation that has specific facilities or comprehensive wellness programmes.
