They both are self-confessed sneaker obsessives who concern a lot about the environmental impact. The fashion business is a combination of fabric made from coffee grounds and recycled plastic waste. They aim to create a light and durable material to use for footwear. A pair of their sneakers weighs 460g, in which 300g is coffee. Each pair also uses the equivalent of six discarded plastic bottles. This can become global trends in sustainable fashion.

But coffee grounds can help eliminate odours, and according to Rens, the shoes are vegan, too. The fashion business has had customers in 57 countries. It is also broadening the market after a successful fundraising campaign. At the moment, all the coffee collection and shoe-making processes are handled in China, but the manufacturing will be soon moved to its founders’ home country of Vietnam.
