As your life, working tools are changing every year, what you need is a good learning method to get success (erfolg) in anything.

Learning is an unique skill for everyone.  As your life, working tools are changing every year, what you need is a good learning method.  Here are 10 best strategies to quickly improve research performance and are applicable to any of the areas discussed on the Quora network.

I. To understand a problem, let ask "Why" 5 times

In the book "The Lean Startup", author Eric Ries gives the "5 questions for Why" method to find the root of a problem.  To better understand, consider an example by the following Eric Ries:

 1. A new version has disabled a client functionality.  Why?  Due to a specific server locator error.

 2. Why is this server faulty?  Because a little-known subsystem is used the wrong way.

 3. Why is this system misused?  The engineers using it don't know how to function properly.

 4. Why doesn't he know?  Because he has never been trained.

 5. Why is he not trained?  Because the manager does not believe in training new engineers, because he and his team are too busy.

By spurring investigations five times, Ries says we'll see how a technical defect quickly reveals a major problem related to HR management.

II. Keep a positive attitude

Worrying that you won't be able to learn something is a false investment of your spiritual energy, says professor Alison Wood Brooks of Harvard Business School.

"Anxiety prevents you from discovering solutions, thinking, hypotheses will lead to real solutions," she wrote.  But when you feel good about what might happen, you will be given the opportunity to think in the right direction.

III. Don't just study, let's practice!

"You can't learn golf from a book. You need a club, a ball," said Quora member who heads the technology division at Funding Knight, a financial firm.  "You cannot learn the open source platform Ruby on Rails from books - you need to practice and put them on the web."

IV. Find an expert and ask for their experience

If you're trying to learn a topic, talk to an expert who can explain it.  You can simply schedule them for lunch and ask them any questions you may have.  Tim Ferriss, author of the book "The 4-hour workweek" is the expert in this.  When he was trying to learn a sport, he would find the nearest silver medal winners, arrange an interview and then hone his techniques.

V. Find a reliable companion

Find someone who is trying to build your skill set, be it climbing lessons, learning the piano or cooking and refer to their learning.  Schedule regular times to check on your progress, either in person or via Skype.

VI. When you don't understand, speak up!

Another tip shared at Quora says: When you don't understand something in the meeting, raise your hand and ask "Excuse me, could you explain why?".  Speaking up will help others supplement, explain to you faster than the unknown passes.

VII. Repeat, repeat and repeat

This does not mean that your practice creates perfect, it just makes your actions faster.  This is because when you do something once, then again - like reading a child's alphabet, you strengthen the connections between brain cells.

A medical student in Australia commented: "Repetition leads to neuromodulation. The brain is a complex system and it allows nerve pathways to communicate at a faster rate than before a cyclical information.  This explains why you quickly read out the alphabet ABC or the number 123 quickly but if you flip it upside down you have a bigger problem."

VIII. Don't just write, draw it

This is the emphasized content in two books on visual thinking "The Black of the Napkin" and "Blah Blah Blah" by Dan Roam.  He has also worked as a consultant for large companies such as Google, eBay, GE and Wal-Mart.  Drawing helps you discover aspects of knowledge that cannot be fully conveyed with words.

Words and images complement each other.  "Usually the best approach to solve problems and generating ideas comes from a combination of words and images" says Dan Roam.  "When you add pictures, thought-provoking illustrations - which is largely impossible to achieve with words alone. This is a way to put your ideas down while keeping it in a stream. "

You can use mind maps or block diagrams to visualize ideas together.

IX. Learn the hard stuff at the beginning of the day

A study shows that human will is limited.  We have many things at the beginning of the day, but this also weakens decisions and resists temptations.  (That's why shopping is tiring.) So if you're learning a foreign language, music or anything else super complicated, schedule it to do it early in the day,  when you have the greatest spiritual energy.

X. Using the 80/20 rule

The 80/20 rule states that you get 80% of the value in 20% of the work.  In business, 20% of activities produce 80% of the results you want.  Fast learners apply similar logic to their research work.

The following is an example shared by one Qoura user:

When I read a book, I usually look at the table of contents and make a 1-5 list of chapters with the most similar content.  When I follow an instructional video, I usually skip to the middle, where actions or techniques are explained, then come back again to see the context and principles.

Preface to most videos is usually preceded by descriptions and most books are layered with appendages to ensure the required length.  So with a little wisdom, you can access most of your knowledge from these sources while investing a fraction of your time.
