The standard of plastic surgery and perfecting the appearance has made many Asian young men follow this beauty trend increasingly.
The prevalence of Chinese social media sites filled with posts about cosmetic surgery standards and perfecting appearance has made many young people feel out of date if they don’t follow this beauty trend.
It is reported that more and more educated men see plastic surgery as the shortest path to gain more opportunities and high positions at work.
Research firm iResearch says that about 17% of Chinese men have had plastic surgery. Most of them started doing it before the age of 30.
Civil servants also decided to change their appearance out of fear that their unsightly appearance might cause them to lose their promotion opportunities.
Based on a survey of 8.9 million monthly active users, the surgery app So Young said that the group that preferred eye and nose plastic surgery the most were young people in their 20s.

The increase in average income in China since 2010 is one of the factors that make plastic surgery become trendy.
Many people even give up their current jobs to become social media influencers, share their plastic surgery experiences and earn from posts related to this issue.
According to iResearch, China's plastic surgery industry is now worth 197 billion yuan, or about $30 billion, tripling since 2015. However, there is a rapid increase in demand for appearance correction
causing Chinese officials to worry that the country could face the risk of a serious masculine crisis.
Many experts also warn that plastic surgery can become addictive, especially for those who are obsessed with a perfect appearance.
Not only China, Japanese men are also increasingly interested in appearance when constantly having to participate in online meetings.
However, instead of going to plastic surgery, they chose a less risky and expensive method: makeup.
Catching up with this trend, Shiseido - a major cosmetic manufacturer in Japan has also launched a beauty application that helps men look like they are using its creams and powders to satisfy the growing beauty needs.
According to research firm Fuji Keizai Group, the Japanese men's cosmetics market right before the pandemic grew from about $5.5 billion to $5.7 billion between 2018 and 2019.
The above figure is forecasted to continue in the near future thanks to the explosive demand of men for beauty care products. This momentum is mainly driven by the Asia-Pacific region, where male makeup culture, especially among young men, is inspired by K-pop stars.
