A-2

Goldenrod (also known as solidago canadensis or solidago virgaurea) is a flowering herb that has long been used as an herbal supplement that has long been used in folk medicine.  The terrestrial parts of the plant are believed to have medicinal value.

Goldenrod is a genus of 100 to 120 species of flowering herbs of the Asteraceae family.  Most species are herbaceous perennial plants that live in open areas such as grassland and savanna.  Most species are native to North America, including Mexico;  a few are of South American and Eurasian origin.  Several American species were introduced to Europe or elsewhere.

Goldenrod medicinal uses: Reduce inflammation / ph: google

In traditional medicine, many benefits have been attributed to Goldenrod.  However, currently there is no scientific evidence to support these many uses.

 Unproven traditional use

Goldenrod medicinal uses traditionally include the treatment of:

 - Tuberculosis
-  Diabetes
-  Big liver
-  Gout
- Hemorrhoids
- Internal bleeding
- Asthma
- Arthritis
- Inflammation of the mouth and throat (when used as a mouthwash)

Use is supported by scientific evidence

There is currently some preliminary evidence that Goldenrod can help:

 - Reduces inflammation
 - Fight a number of infections
 - Acts as a diuretic (meaning it cleanses the body of excess fluid)

In Europe, Goldenrod medicinal uses is to treat urinary tract infections and to prevent or treat kidney stones.

1. Goldenrod medicinal uses: Reduce inflammation

A 2009 study published in the Journal of Ethnology demonstrated the anti-inflammatory effects of a strain of Goldenrod called solidago chilensis meyen.

Research has also shown that Goldenrod acts as an anti-inflammatory, it may aid its use in arthritis and other inflammatory conditions as well as hemorrhoids and other topical uses.

Some older preliminary studies also suggest that Goldenrod may have an antispasmodic effect, meaning they may help ease muscle spasms.

2. Goldenrod medicinal uses: Fight a number of infections

A 2009 study of plant extracts to kill certain infectious agents in animals showed that Goldenrod (solidago virgaurea and solidago graminifolia) helped Acanthamoeba-infected animals live three times longer than humans.  Untreated.  The extracts are used both internally and externally and found effective in both forms.

In a rare study in humans, Italian scientists published an article in 2013, looking at Goldenrod and other herbal medicines alongside antibiotics in people with urinary tract infections.  One group used antibiotics alone while the other group treated with a combination of antibiotics and herbal medicines.

The combination treatment group had fewer UTIs and a longer interval between recurrent infections than the antibiotic group alone.

A 2016 study also isolated and identified the antibacterial and antimicrobial active ingredients in solidago virgaurea.

3. Goldenrod medicinal uses: Diuretic effect

Many older studies show Goldenrod's diuretic effects, but these studies are not supported by follow-up studies.  Much of the support for this use comes from these old studies as well as reports on the traditional usage.

4. Other potential Goldenrod medicinal uses

Researchers have found that Goldenrod contains polyphenols, which are plant-derived active substances that often act as antioxidants.  However, there are no studies to support Goldenrod's antioxidant activity.

Antioxidants clean free radicals from your system.  Antioxidants can also help reduce inflammation.

II. Dosage and preparation

Because of the risk of dehydration, you should drink at least two liters of water a day while taking Goldenrod.

1. Tea

Making tea is a popular preparation for Goldenrod.  To make it:

Measure 3 to 5 grams (1 or 2 teaspoons) of dried herb.
Heat 150 ml (ml) of water to boil.
Steep for five to ten minutes.
 Filter the tea.
Dosage typically ranges from 6 to 12 grams per day, equivalent to two to four cups of tea per day.  Should be taken between meals.

2. Liquid

If you take a liquid extract of Goldenrod, the usual dosage ranges from 0.5 to 2 ml, two or three times daily.

For one drug, the dosage is usually 0.5 to 1 ml orally two or three times per day.
