The 45-year-old billionaire, who paid all the costs for the trip, was scheduled to depart in 2023. However, Mr. Maezawa then decided to invite eight suitable people from all over the world to join the trip.

Japanese billionaires said that candidates only need to meet two criteria: "creativity to help others and society" and "willing to help other crew members have the same aspirations.".  Those wishing to participate must register by March 14 and the prequalification process will take place by March 21.

Billionaire Maezawa has not announced a deadline for the online interview round, but interviews and final medical examinations are scheduled for the end of May.
