The company intends to raise $1.725 billion in new capital. The valuation of the company in this deal increased by 25% compared to the previous fundraising.
In addition to raising capital from outside, SpaceX also conducted a stock sale to employees in the company and existing investors which is expected to raise $750 million. SpaceX regularly conducts crowdfunding like this as a way for longtime shareholders to sell stocks, given that SpaceX is still a 20 years old private company.
SpaceX's valuation has skyrocketed in recent years as the company has successively raised "billions of dollars" to pour into large capital-intensive projects, including the next-generation Startship rocket ship and the Internet. Global Internet coverage via satellite called Starlink.
