Isolation leads to significant health risks for elderly. Is there any ways to fight elderly loneliness in social distancing time due to the Covid-19 risk factors.

Wellness care for seniors has always been important, whether it is before or after Covid-19. The elderly are not only vulnerable to the virus but also social distancing. The feelings of loneliness and isolation have never been easy for anyone of us, especially the elderly.
We need to fight elderly loneliness because there are several harmful effects of loneliness in elderly, including: - High blood pressure - Heart disease - Depression - An increase in illness and death rates
So how to help the elderly with loneliness?
Luckily, bringing social well-being in the elderly is not an impossible task. Firstly, you do not need to visit them in the face. In fact, you are not allowed to do so due to social distancing act. Be creative and find some alternatives to achieve psychological well-being in older adults.
Use technology
Taking advantages of technology is how to combat senior isolation. Seniors nowadays are not disconnected from the internet and technology. According to research from Pew Research Center, 67% of people ages 65 and older go online these days. The number of these elderly having a smartphone also rise to 42%. There are many creative ways you can do to prevent social isolation and depression in elderly. It is advised to have face-to-face contact with Facetime or any similar apps. You can have a tea or coffee with them, form a book club and discuss characters, have dinner and snacks together, ask them to talk about their childhood, learn a new topic or help them explore technology.

Other alternatives to connect with isolated elderly
You can prevent problems of old age in psychology just simply by making a handmade card and delivering it in their mailbox, sending them a crossword puzzle, preparing fresh cookies,…
Ensure a balanced diet
A balanced diet is needed to ensure wellness for elderly. Help them in grocery shopping and meal preparing. There are many foods needed such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, animal protein, beans, lentils, legumes, dairy products (milk, yoghurt and cheese),… It is not difficult to fight elderly loneliness to protect your loved ones from the effects of Covid-19 pandemic. Contacting by video and ensuring their healthy diets are how you can help them.
