Sweden launches Satellites from the Arctic by summer 2022
Currently, the European Union (EU) does not have the ability to launch satellites from Europe, so Sweden wants to upgrade a series of missiles from the 1960s to meet today's standards.
It is reported on October 8 that Sweden is developing the ability to launch satellites into orbit. The Esrange Space Center outside the northernmost city of Kiruna is scheduled to begin operations in the summer of 2022.
Esrange is a research center and launch site established in the 1960s. Since 1966, nearly 600 rockets and balloons have been launched from this base, mainly for research purposes. Its location is about 200km from the Arctic Circle and is surrounded by a vast wilderness. This is quite convenient for making launches.

Notably, the investment in boosting satellite capacity in Europe did not come from the EU, but through a $13.6 million loan agreement between the state-owned space company SSC and the Nordic Investment Bank.
The 12 years maturity loan will finance the investments needed to bring the older rockets into operation.
This would allow Sweden to become a club member of about a dozen countries around the world capable of launching its own satellites.
In addition to military purposes, satellites can be used to gather information about the Earth, atmosphere and oceans, and assist in environmental and weather monitoring, as well as deforestation and wildfires.
