Rosehip tea has many health benefits that you may not be aware of.  Let's take a look at 7 amazing rosehip tea benefits.

7 ROSEHIP TEA BENEFITS

1. Rosehip tea benefits: Rich in antioxidants

Rosehip tea is rich in antioxidants which are substances that protect or reduce cell damage caused by molecules called free radicals.

In a study of the antioxidant composition of six fruit extracts, rose hip was determined to have the highest antioxidant capacity.  More specifically, this fruit contains high levels of polyphenols, carotenoids and vitamins C and E, all of which have powerful antioxidant properties.

Interestingly, Rosehip fruits harvested from plants grown at higher altitudes tend to contain more antioxidants.  Additionally, research shows that dried Rosehip fruits may provide less antioxidants than fresh fruit.

2. Rosehip tea benefits: Supports the immune system

One of the most impressive Rosehip tea benefits is its vitamin C content.

Vitamin C plays many essential roles in your immune system, including stimulating the production of white blood cells, known as lymphocytes, protecting your body against infections;  enhance the function of lymphocytes;  helps to strengthen your skin's protective barrier against external pathogens.

In addition to vitamin C, Rosehip tea contains high levels of polyphenols and vitamins A and E, all of which help boost and protect your immune system.

3. Rosehip tea benefits: Protect the body from heart disease

Thanks to its high antioxidant content, Rosehip tea can help boost heart health.

Studies show a relationship between vitamin C intake and the risk of heart disease.  A review of 13 studies found that supplementing with at least 500mg of vitamin C per day was associated with significant reductions in LDL ("bad" cholesterol) and blood triglycerides - two risk factors for heart disease.

Additionally, studies link vitamin C deficiency with an increased risk of death from heart disease.

Rosehip tea are also high in flavonoids.  These antioxidants have been shown to reduce blood pressure in people with high blood pressure and improve blood flow to the heart.

4. Rosehip tea benefits: Helps with weight loss

Research shows that Rosehip tea can aid with weight loss.

Studies show that Rosehip from Rosa canina is rich in antioxidants called tiliroside, which has fat burning properties.

In an 8-week study in obese mice, those fed a high-fat diet containing 1% Rosehip extract gained significantly less weight and stomach fat for animals not receiving the supplement.

Human studies have shown similar results.  In a 12-week study in 32 overweight adults, taking 100mg of Rosehip tea extract daily significantly reduced body weight and belly fat, compared to the placebo group.

5. Rosehip tea benefits: Fight against type 2 diabetes

Although the exact mechanism is still unclear, some studies suggest that Rosehip tea may protect against type 2 diabetes.

In an 8-week study in obese mice, those fed a high-fat diet containing 1% Rosehip extract gained significantly less weight and stomach fat with animals not receiving the supplement

In another study, Rosehip extract significantly reduced blood sugar levels in diabetic rats.

6. Rosehip tea benefits:  Reduces inflammation and pain

Rosehip tea contains many compounds that have anti-inflammatory effects, including polyphenols and galactolipids.

Galactolipids are the main fats in cell membranes.  Recently, they have been studied for their powerful anti-inflammatory properties and ability to reduce joint pain.

In a review of 3 different studies, Rosehip tea supplementation significantly reduced joint pain in people with osteoarthritis. Furthermore, those who absorbed Rosehip tea were twice as likely to improve pain than the placebo group.

7. Rosehip tea benefits: Anti-aging skin

Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and is responsible for providing elasticity to the skin.

Vitamin C has been shown to promote collagen synthesis and protect skin cells against sun damage - 2 factors that help keep your skin looking firmer and younger.  Since rosehip tea contains many of these vitamins, drinking this water can be beneficial for your skin.

In addition, Rosehip tea also contains the carotenoid astaxanthin, which may have anti-aging effects, as it helps prevent collagen breakdown.

Other carotenoids in Rosehip tea may also benefit the skin.  In particular, vitamin A and lycopene have been shown to protect skin cells against sun damage.
