New discoveries from the ancient city of Pompeii constantly bring many surprises to archaeologists in the past and modern.
According to British archaeologists, new excavations are very interesting. This is the first time in our life to explore the ancient world of Pompeii with this largest scale excavation in 50 years.

1. Mystery underground
Visitors to the ancient city of Pompeii - one of Italy's top tourist attractions often overwhelmed with the vastness of this city.
"It's hard to imagine how large Pompeii is, even for those who know a little about it" - said Naples tour guide Fiorella Squillante.

2. Unexpected discovery
According to archaeologists, Pompeii always brings many surprises after each excavation. Dr. Caitlín E. Barrett, an associate professor at Cornell University, has received numerous grants to conduct daily research on Pompeii ruins.
Early explorers were often not interested in small monuments but focused on the vast Bourbon royal family homes to be able to explore more of the works of art on display in the ancient world. However, the modern archeology team also wants to find information related to humans in this world.
Her archeological team Caitlín E. Barrett used modern techniques to study the garden and simulate the daily lives of ancient people at a time before the volcano erupted and destroyed them.
Similar to the archaeological team of Barrett and Stenpen Kay, current excavations use modern technology to find what remains or is buried.
When people first excavated the ancient city of Pompeii, archaeologists often focused on finding the remaining beauty. However, today the archeology team wants to explore the ancient world through study all the documents of the ancient city of Pompeii - not only beautiful or luxurious objects but also fragments of pottery, cooking utensils, animal bones thrown in trash cans, microscopic pollen particles in the soil and more.

3. Future value
What excites the experts most during the excavation?
Dr. Caitlín Barrett is excited about the amulet collection and necklace unearthed in Casa del Giardino because they could be used in the study of ancient magic and personal ritual forms. This is a way for us to better understand the human hopes and fears of the past and to discover that ancient humans have many similarities with us.
Meanwhile, archaeologist Stephen Kay is interested in the coal line that specifies the time of the volcanic eruption.
"We always take that text and see it as a great revelation. There are a lot of surprises when we see what's buried in the city. Our responsibility is to preserve what they are. We have instead of exploring more. I think the findings in the archaeological project Pompeii (Grande Progetto Pompeii) will inspire research for a very long time." - emphasized the archaeologist Stephen Kay.
While Dr. Barrett said: "Everyone already knows about Pompeii but what one never expected is that it is compared to the living city. There will be many surprises about the old city because of all the statements. Pompeii's story has yet to be told.
"New discoveries as well as areas that have been unearthed in the past continue in the research process. By approaching new technology and new technology, we understand differently about city civilization. This is completely unique even those who study and work on this work every day see the newness and wonder of the ancient city of Italy. It is a city of the past, but its values still exist in the present and in the future" - Ms. Caitlín Barrett emphasized.
