Closed coffins and statues buried underground more than 2,500 years ago are now re-exported in the temporary display area next to the famous Djoser Pyramid in Saqqara, according to a source.

Archaeologists opened a coffin and discovered a well-preserved mummy inside.  To draw the above conclusion, they also used X-ray technique to "see" through the cloth wrapped around the mummy and determine the extent to which the mummy was preserved.

Speaking at a press conference announcing the new discovery, Minister of Antiquities and Heritage Khaled el-Anany said that the antiquities date from the time of the Ptolemaios dynasty, which ruled Egypt for about 300 years, arrested  early from 320 to about 30 BC;  and in the Late Era of ancient Egypt (from 664-332 BC).

Minister el-Anany said that all the antiquities will be moved to at least three museums in Cairo, including the Egyptian Museum near the famous pyramids of Giza.

Cairo authorities will continue to publish new findings related to Saqqara, belonging to the so-called "dead city of the Pharaohs" before the end of this year.

Since September, Egyptian antiques authorities have unearthed at least 140 sealed coffins, most of which contain mummies in the same area in Saqqara.

The discovery on November 14 comes just over a month after archaeologists discovered 59 coffins also in the same area, dating back more than 2,500 years ago.

Minister Khaled added that more findings at Saqqara are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Egypt expects archaeological discoveries to boost tourism.  Tourism industry in Egypt suffered many negative effects from the 2011 uprising to the COVID-19 pandemic.
