During an online meeting that took place on the same day, the 24-member UNESCO international committee agreed that Singapore's registration dossier met all the criteria and decided there was no need for further discussion at its second session on the 15th upcoming intergovernmental committee.

With the "Hawker culture" recognized, Singapore now has the first item in the list of the world intangible cultural heritage.  This is also the second time this country has recognized dossier as UNESCO heritage list.  Previously, the Singapore Botanic Garden (Singapore Botanical Garden) dossier was also recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2015.

According to Singapore's Minister of Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong, "Hawker culture" is the pride of Singapore and all its people.  This cultural feature reflects Singapore's living heritage and multiculturalism, and is an indispensable part of the daily life of all people in Singapore, regardless of age, race or origin.

Mr. Yeo Hiang Meng, president of The Federation Of Merchants' Associations (FMAS), which together with the National Heritage Committee and the National Environment Agency of Singapore, jointly submitted the record of "Hawker culture" to UNESCO.  This good result will help raise the prestige of the culture both at home and abroad for Singapore.  To commemorate this event, relevant Singaporean agencies said the welcome program called SG HawkerFest will kick off on December 26 and last for 3 weeks, however, due to an COVID-19 epidemic, activities will mainly take place online.
